DESCRIPTION

Sojourner Place at Preston is a joint venture collaboration of Health Care for the Homeless and Episcopal Housing Corporation to build a new 90,000 square foot multi-family building totaling 70 units in the Oliver neighborhood of Baltimore City. The project will be financed primarily through the sale of Low Income Housing Tax Credits awarded through the Maryland Department of Housing and Development’s Permanent Supportive Housing set aside program.  Additional financing will come from loans from Maryland and Baltimore Departments of Housing and Community Development and a grant from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation.   

The property will be located on the consolidation of Mayor and City Council owned lots bound by East Preston Street, North Central Avenue, and Harford Avenue. The project will provide high quality housing and resident services to thirty-five residents exiting homelessness and thirty-five residents with incomes below 50% of area median income. Sojourner Place at Preston will include thirty-seven onebedroom, eighteen two-bedroom units and fifteen threebedroom units.  The project will include professional on site property management and case management services along with multiple community spaces including a multi-purpose lounge and an exercise studio.   

The project will have a unique design that takes advantage of the site topography.  We will utilize the site’s triangular shape to locate our community and management spaces with dramatic views of downtown Baltimore and the Johns Hopkins medical campus.  Sojourner Place at Preston builds on the recent positive development momentum in the surrounding community including the Hoen Building renovation as the Center for Neighborhood Innovation, the Baltimore Food HUB, the Mary Harvin Center and the Sage Center.
