DESCRIPTION
Alcott Place Apartments is a senior building in the Central Park Heights community. Funded with Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) and project-based rental assistance, the property provides much needed affordable housing to local seniors over 62 years of age with incomes below 30% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
Built in 1908, the property was formally known as School No. 59 and the Louisa May Alcott School. The architecture of the building is a unique combination of stucco and brick. The school was built following the 1899 reform of Baltimore City’s Charter which resulted in a new philosophy in the Board of Education. The City placed more emphasis on high professional standards, progressive curriculums, and reducing overcrowding. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Episcopal Housing Corporation became managing member of the building in 2024.
