Union Crossing Townhomes

DETAILS

DESCRIPTION

In 2009, Episcopal Housing Corporation partnered with the historic city of Westminster to build and sell four affordable townhomes in the TriStreet area near McDaniel College. This project was part of the city’s very successful efforts to revitalize some of the areas adjacent to the historic downtown.

Each of the Energy Star certified units is 1450 sq. ft. on three levels with three bedrooms , one and one-half baths and a full basement. They feature state of the art, high-efficiency HVAC systems and tankless, on-demand water heaters. Other features included Energy Star appliances, off street parking and covered porches. Modular construction provided substantial savings on construction costs and allowed the townhomes to be completed faster than would have been possible using conventional “stick-built” methods.

The Union Crossing Townhomes were targeted towards households making 80% or less of Area Median Income. Partially funded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s HOME Program, these units offered very favorable interest rates. Other incentives included various grants offered to potential buyers to assist with down payments and financing. The project was quite a success and all four were sold within months of completion.
