The Pimlico Road Arts and Community Center

DESCRIPTION

The Pimlico Road Arts and Community Center is a new 18,000 sq. ft. multi-use building in the Park Heights neighborhood of Northwest Baltimore. The center provides a home for the Smart Steps Program, the Park Heights Family Support Center and the St. Vincent De Paul Ark Program. The Smart Steps Program offers afterschool and summer activities and education for at-risk youth in the neighborhood. The Park Heights Family Support Center offers a variety of services and resources including HIV support services. The Ark Pre-school Program is the only state-accredited preschool program in Baltimore City for children whose families are experiencing homelessness.

The project came into being through the vision of two area churches, The Church of the Holy Nativity (Episcopal) and the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Seeing the need in the neighborhood, the two churches joined forces and created a nonprofit community development corporation. The vision of the organization was to create a comprehensive center to address a variety of issues in the community. The Pimlico Road Arts and Community Center is the result of that collaboration. The $3.2MM project was completed in 2007.
